Plastic products are among the most prevalent products in the consumer market today. They are popular because of their durability, low cost, easy mass-production and variety. This project aimed to design a plastic product for the “Venus production group”: a small trash-can that can be attached to the cabinet door. Generally, there are two types of trash-cans in the kitchen: one for dry waste and one for wet waste. These small trash-cans are usually mounted on the cabinet door (outside the cabinet compartment) and have smaller dimensions than the regular trash-cans in the kitchen.
The design of this product was based on the idea of quickly and easily removing wet waste from the work surface.
This product has been designed with the user experience in mind, taking into account the production limitations and the features of similar products. The optimal and standard size, the simple form, and the easy and fast operation are the main characteristics of this design.
The trash-can can be opened easily by pushing the top of it, due to the magnetic mechanism.
This design features a two-piece trash-can that opens outward in a curved and sloping motion. The trash-can is mounted on the cabinet by a hanger attached to its body.
A benefit of this design is that it minimizes the contact of the hand with the can. It allows for easy and quick access to the trash-can even when the hands are full, by simply pushing the door open.
